My Roundup of Great-Value Stays in Smaller Towns Around Fukuoka, Japan

Hi! Ready to explore Fukuoka hotel discounts?
I’m a travel blogger exploring the world— Traveling Gomyammi.Welcome!
If you’re planning a trip to Japan in November, December, or January, you’re probably deep into the planning process,
and I think you’ll relate:
when putting together a Japan trip these days,
one of the biggest expenses is accommodation. Those hotel bills really add up!

My personal favorite near Hakata and Tenjin
among hotels with a large communal bath.

With Fukuoka becoming increasingly popular,
weekend and holiday hotel rates listed around $15–$151 a night
can climb well beyond that range…

So if you’re planning a Fukuoka trip,
here’s a hotel discount worth knowing about.

Trip.comis where you can
find Go! Fukuoka
eligible hotels—take a look.

What Is the Go! Fukuoka Travel Subsidy?

It’s an official program run by Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan:
the Go! Fukuoka travel subsidy. Here’s how it works.

Book an eligible stay, and you can save ¥3,000 per person, per night. That’s the value of
the discount—which can bring a six-night stay for two down to around $143.
That’s an incredible deal!
And yes, the discount applies every night.

Per person, per night: a discount worth ¥3,000.

For two guests, that’s ¥6,000 off per night.

Tourists traveling from South Korea to Fukuoka are eligible, too.Better yet,
there’s no complicated paperwork or waiting for a subsidy payment.
You simply book an eligible property through a booking platform, which makes the process easy.

Hotels near Fukuoka Airport, including those around Hakata Station,
Tenjin, and Nakasu, aren’t covered.
But if you’re considering a stay in another town within Fukuoka Prefecture, this is
definitely worth a look.

Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan

Explore Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine,

then enjoy a relaxed overnight stay nearby.

Personally, though, for Dazaifu,

I’d recommend visiting as a stop on a Yufuin tour!

Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan

A lovely small city for canal boat rides and traditional Japanese atmosphere.

Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan

A food-focused city known for local specialties and ramen.

Asakura, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan

A great choice for hot springs and natural scenery,

with a reputation for ryokan—traditional Japanese inns—and hot spring stays.

Top 2 Budget Hotels in Kurume Eligible for Go! Fukuoka

Here’s what the journey from Hakata Station looks like.
If shopping in Fukuoka is your main priority, I’d stay in Hakata.
But if you want to save on accommodation and explore a smaller Japanese city on a budget,
Kurume is a solid option.
The local food scene is better than you might expect, too.

Just $29 a night for two people?
Since the discount applies each night,
you can keep the whole trip surprisingly affordable.

Look for the Go! Fukuoka label to confirm the discount applies at
The Celecton Kurume. That’s the first hotel on my list.

At $14 per person, it’s fantastic value.
There’s even a large indoor communal bath!
It’s more convenient for Nishitetsu Kurume Station than JR Kurume Station,
and you’ll find plenty of places to eat nearby.

Another option at $15 per person: Hotel Kanraku Kurume Ekimae.
This one really caught my eye.
It’s a new hotel near Kurume Station that opened in 2025.A fresh addition to the area!
The breakfast buffet is around $7, and the spread looked pretty good, too.

Budget Hotels in Yanagawa Eligible for Go! Fukuoka

Hop aboard a traditional Japanese boat
for a ride along Yanagawa’s canals.
You can enjoy the boat ride, and I’ve also seen people book $23 travel photo sessions while they’re here.

The city is also famous for seiro mushi,
a dish of eel and rice steamed together.
You can tour the former residence of Yanagawa’s feudal lord’s family and its Japanese garden:
Ohana Residence and Shotoen Garden. Both are popular sights.

About 220 meters from Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station,
with rooms costing around $11 per person, per night, this is another affordable option:

Hotel New Gaea Yanagawa. That’s the hotel to look up.

If you’re spending a night in Yanagawa,
Go! Fukuoka discounts are available here,
making it worth considering for your overnight stay.

Budget Hotels in Asakura Eligible for Go! Fukuoka

Of all the Go! Fukuoka deals, the two destinations that looked most appealing to me
were Kurume and Asakura. Here’s why Asakura stood out.

You can enjoy hot springs here,
making it a good fit for an affordable Japanese onsen ryokan trip in November, December, or January.
If that’s the kind of winter getaway you’re after, take a look.

Akizuki Castle Town and Harazuru Onsen,
along with the Akizuki Castle Ruins, offer that peaceful hot spring town atmosphere
you can really settle into.
It feels a little less well-known than Yufuin, too.

For this area, though, I’d recommend renting a carand making it a road trip.
It’s about a 40–50-minute drive from Hakata Station.

This hot spring ryokan in Akizukiis called
Koarashiyama Akizuki.
It opened in 2026, so everything is fresh and clean.
A private hot spring bath and breakfast are included, yet even during the busy November and December season,
a night at this ryokan costs just $113. That’s all!

A winter ryokan stay for $113 a night?
Outside Tsushima, I’d be surprised to find many at that price.
