Yurari Rokumyo
A Yufuin ryokan with a private onsen and yukata
Paid for with my own money

A great international winter getaway for November and December
Perfect for winter
a ryokan in Yufuin, Fukuoka, Japan
Yurari Rokumyo Let me recommend it to you!

This ryokan was seriously so beautiful,
and it was such a comfortable, restful stay.

Every room comes with its own private bath,
and there’s also a separate family bath on the property.

I booked mine through Trip.com before the trip!!
But after looking around, Agoda was actually the cheapest!!!!!!!!!
(I also checked MyRealTrip and Klook,
but this property was basically only available there.)
So honestly, book it on Agoda……..

If Yurari Rokumyo is sold out,
I’d personally recommend this ryokan too.

Yurari Rokumyo
3090-1 Yufuincho Kawakami, Yufu, Oita 879-5102, Japan

It’s about a 15-minute walk from Yufuin Station,
and the easiest landmark to look for is JOYFUL
the family restaurant,
or Marumiya Store—if you face the supermarket, it’s down the small lane on the left.
Once you turn in, the ryokan is literally just 30 seconds away.

A ryokan that’s only 30 seconds from a supermarket?
Honestly, isn’t that the dream in Japan?

This is the main entrance from the road on the right side of JOYFUL and the supermarket,
and
even the entrance is gorgeous.

If you came all the way to Yufuin, you have to spend at least one night in a ryokan….
I was genuinely so happy with this place!

It also seemed popular with families,
and I think they have rooms for four people too.

This is what the front desk looked like when we went in to check in.
Is this even real?
It was so pretty.
It really preserves that classic traditional atmosphere.

Check-in & accommodation tax

Check-in: 3:00 PM / Check-out: 10:00 AM

When we arrived, we paid in cash
and it was 250 yen per person, which was the accommodation tax.
We didn’t pay a separate onsen tax.

This place is really well-known with a 9.7 rating,
and it’s a very popular ryokan,
so if you’re planning to go,
I definitely recommend booking early.

The family who runs the place is incredibly kind.

The owner personally showed us a map of Yufuin and explained everything one by one,
which I loved.

Price for one night

It was around 260,000 KRW for one night, and with taxes
it came to about 290,000 KRW,overall.
But keep in mind,
it was more expensive because it was Golden Week season.

Including the accommodation tax paid on-site,
the total was about $249.
There’s no kaiseki dinner here, and no breakfast either!
(That part was a tiny bit disappointing.)

But the supermarket is literally 30 seconds away,

and for a ryokan this beautiful and atmospheric,
I didn’t feel like the price was a waste at all.

You get these lush green views through the big windows,
and on the day I stayed, we had everything from sunshine to clouds to rain,
but every version of it felt moody and beautiful.

I really think doing a quick 3-hour Yufuin tour
feels completely different from actually staying overnight.

I highly recommend spending at least one night here.

One more thing I loved about staying at this Yufuin ryokan
was that
you get to try on yukata too!!!

The colors were so pretty.

Room amenities

This was our room, and since it’s a ryokan,
the owner walked us through
all the facilities one by one,
which felt incredibly thoughtful.

Even the path leading to the room had such a nice atmosphere.

There’s a microwave where you can heat things up,
and dishes are all provided too.
They also said the sink water here is safe to drink.

The room is divided into several separate spaces:
a tatami sleeping room and a living room with a table,
plus a private open-air bath in the room and a powder room leading out to the bath.
I actually loved that everything was separated and felt private.

The layout lets you see the outdoor bath from the living room.

Each room also has air conditioning.
I went in late April, and because it rained a little, it felt chilly,
so definitely bring a light jacket.

But there were extra futons, and under the living room carpet
there was heated flooring, so don’t worry.

They also provide amenities!
There’s a hair dryer, toothbrush cups, an electric kettle, a coffee machine, teacups, and a teapot
all stocked in the room.

In-room private bath

Our room came with this outdoor open-air bath,
so we didn’t really need to use the separate family bath.
The hot spring water was always warm whenever we went in,
and it left my skin feeling smooth and silky.

The next morning, it was lightly raining,
and soaking in the bath on a rainy day felt like absolute heaven.
There’s also a washing area right next to it,
so you can rinse off, soak, and dry off comfortably afterward.

Spacious tatami room

Then there was this cozy, beautiful tatami room—
and it was actually pretty spacious.
Honestly, it felt big enough to roll around in from side to side….
On top of that, the futons were unbelievably fluffy……
It was set up almost like a low bed,
and maybe because the bedding was so soft, I slept incredibly well.

You still get those calming green views from here too.
Just looking at it made this Yufuin ryokan feel healing.
It really made me understand why people love staying at ryokan.

Only two futons were already laid out,
but inside the closet there were extra futons in different types,
so you can take out more if you need them.

The toilet is in a separate bathroom area,
and there were even welcome nuts waiting for us.
There’s also a laundry basket and a drying rack in the room,
so you can use those if needed.
But just a heads-up—I hung clothes outside,
and because it was outdoors, they ended up even damper than before!!!

Family bath available

You can also use the family bath here.
If the sign outside says “vacant” in kanji,
that means it’s available to use.
I didn’t use it separately because our room already had a private bath.

Yukata experience available

One of my favorite parts here was getting to try on the yukata.
It was a proper yukata set, complete with the waist ribbon,
and they even gave us socks.

They also had traditional wooden geta sandals,
and of course I tried them on because they were cute,
but my big toes started hurting, so I couldn’t really walk outside the property in them.
Honestly, I have no idea how people wear those for long walks.

There’s also an outer robe to wear over the yukata,
and it was more padded than I expected,
so it actually kept me warm.
Photos look beautiful with just the yukata,
but adding the outer robe gives it a totally different charm.
Personally, I thought this stretch with the yellow flowers was especially pretty.

I feel like yellow flowers will always remind me of this ryokan now.

You can even wear the yukata out for a walk around Yufuin,
which makes it feel like a fun, memorable experience.
Honestly, in Yufuin,
I think the quiet back roads and countryside lanes are prettier than the main tourist street.
Which is exactly why I really recommend staying overnight in Yufuin.

Things to do nearby & supermarket

Restaurants

I loved that the supermarket was literally 30 seconds away..
Especially because the supermarket bento and dango were ridiculously good.
This place doesn’t serve breakfast or kaiseki, but honestly, that almost made it better.
It made a full supermarket snack haul totally possible.
