Top 5 Hotels in Sapporo
A Winter Getaway in Japan
Staying Near Sapporo Station, Odori, or Susukino
Which Area Should You Book?
Hi! I’m your globe-trotting travel blogger,
Traveling Gomyammi.Welcome!
Planning a snowy winter escape to Hokkaido, Japan? Here are my favorite hotels in Sapporo to help you find the right base.
Most visitors choose the Sapporo Station, Odori, or Susukino area— essentially,
three main neighborhoods to consider when booking.
They’re only one subway stop apart,
so you might wonder, “Does the location really matter?”
But each has its own advantages:
|
Sapporo Station → Convenient for airport transfers and JR train trips. Odori → Great for sightseeing, shopping, and the Sapporo Snow Festival. Susukino → Best for restaurants, bars, and exploring after dark. |
Sapporo gets plenty of snow in winter,
so being close to a station, having a communal bath, and finding somewhere
comfortable to unwind at the end of the daymatter more than you might expect.

Save this guide for your trip planning!

ONSEN RYOKAN YUEN SAPPORO (ONSEN RYOKAN YUEN SAPPORO) 8.8 – Rating: 8.8 – Reviews: 2,613 – Price: Around $15–$186 per night [the source’s lower price appears incomplete] |

I’m giving myself a little credit for finding this one.
It’s genuinely beautiful.
A hotel with the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese ryokan inn isn’t easy to find in central Sapporo.
This peaceful, thoughtfully designed property combines that ryokan feel with natural hot-spring bathing.
In particular, its hot-spring water comes from Noboribetsu Karurusu Onsen, in one of Hokkaido’s best-known hot-spring areas, and is transported to the hotel.
Instead of a typical breakfast buffet, you get a Japanese set breakfast, served as a complete meal.
You can also enjoy hitsumabushi—a rice dish served with different seasonings and broth—made here with Hokkaido hokke, or Atka mackerel.
Location
About an eight-minute walk from Exit 1 of Odori Subway Station and a 13-minute walk from JR Sapporo Station.
It’s also about eight minutes from Exit 8 of the Sapporo Station underground pedestrian walkway, with convenient access to Odori Park and the Former Hokkaido Government Office area.
Best For
Travelers who want the feel of a traditional Japanese ryokanwithout leaving central Sapporo.
Anyone who wants natural hot-spring bathing without traveling all the way to Noboribetsu.
Couples looking for an atmospheric stay for a romantic getaway or anniversary.
Travelers who would rather skip the standard hotel breakfast buffet for a carefully prepared Japanese breakfastinstead.
Anyone ready to slow down and relax in open-air baths and a sauna.
Visiting a ryokan with kids can be tricky when it means traveling to the suburbs or countryside,
so I’d recommend this option to families, too.
Before You Book
Natural hot-spring water is used in the open-air and semi-open-air baths; the regular indoor baths do not use hot-spring water.
The baths are open from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. the following day and from 6–10 a.m. Sauna hours are 3 p.m.–midnight and 6–9 a.m.
The Japanese set breakfast is exclusively for overnight guests and is served from 7–10 a.m. Check whether breakfast is included and whether advance reservations are required.
Parking costs ¥2,000 per night and is first come, first served. Spaces are limited; if the lot is full, you’ll need to use a nearby paid lot.
One child under five can stay free when sharing an existing bed with a parent or guardian, but cribs are not available.
It’s about an eight-minute walk from Odori Station, so keep that in mind if you’ll be pulling a suitcase through snow.

From April 1, 2026, stays at hotels and ryokan in Sapporo are subject to additional accommodation taxes.
Your existing room rate + Hokkaido accommodation tax + Sapporo city accommodation tax must all be paid, with the taxes calculated per person, per night.
Accommodation taxes elsewhere in Hokkaido may differ, so check the rules for each destination.
If you’re planning a winter trip to Sapporo, compare hotel prices using
the final total, including accommodation taxes.
