I finally have my very own Canon R10—my first camera!

My first Canon camera purchase: the experience, discounts, and freebies

I finally did it: I bought my first camera for blogging. It’s officially mine!
And yes, I’m ridiculously excited.
After thinking about it for years and spending a month seriously researching,
this is the camera I finally chose.
Take a Look

A Canon camera: the EOS R10. To buy it,
I visited the company-operated Canon Plex Gangnam store.
For purchases like this, I prefer genuine products from a brand’s own store,
and I like shopping in person, so I headed straight over!
Part 1: Which Beginner Camera Should I Buy for Travel Blogging?
Part 2: How the Canon Hanbangdang Pop-Up Changed My Mind
I’d originally planned to buy the Canon PowerShot V1,
but visiting Canon’s Hanbangdang pop-up—a photography experience with a traditional Korean medicine clinic theme—won me over to the EOS R10.
I also wanted to see whether I could compare it with any other cameras,
which was another reason to visit the store.
My checklist: it couldn’t be too heavy.
As a travel blogger, I shoot more photos than videos.
I needed both zoom and close-up capability.
The photos had to look noticeably better than smartphone shots.
My budget was under $1,119.
No used cameras—I wanted a brand-new one.
It had to be easy to use, and the results couldn’t look awful!
After weighing it against the Canon PowerShot V1,
I ultimately chose the EOS R10.
The V-series models lean more toward video,
and although I do make Reels and short clips, the PowerShot V1 felt more like a camera for YouTubers and vloggers.
That seemed to be its sweet spot!

The store’s hours changed on October 1, 2026,
so keep that in mind when planning your visit.
The updated hours are 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
I didn’t make a reservation; I just walked in.

Canon R10 vs EOS R50: My In-Store Comparison |
|||

Once I was in the store,
the two cameras I compared were the EOS R50 and the EOS R10.
Both are interchangeable-lens mirrorless cameras with similar capabilities.
They felt pretty close in weight, too,
but the EOS R10 had a few more convenient controls.

The EOS R10
makes selecting a focus point easier with a joystick, which I really liked. It also has an extra control dialfor adjusting settings.
Their specs are quite similar, and the weight difference was smaller than I expected.
The R10 is heavier, but only by about 54 grams.
I’m pretty sensitive to extra weight, especially when I’ll be carrying something around on trips,
but this felt manageable!
If you want something straightforward for casual shooting without too many controls, the recommendation was the EOS R50.
The EOS R10,on the other hand, is for someone who wants to start exploring photography more seriously.
That’s how they explained the choice: a beginner-friendly camerawith more room to learn.
Once I tried the joystick, I found it really easy to move the focus point.
That pretty much sold me on the Canon R10!
The R10 also has a deeper grip and more physical controls,
making it easier to hold securely with a lens attached and change shooting settings frequently.

Neither camera has in-body image stabilization,
so they wouldn’t be my pick for filming while walking.
For that kind of use, the PowerShot V1 or V10 was suggested instead!

EOS R10 Price, Promotional Discounts & Free Gifts |
|||

I bought the EOS R10 18–150mm kit here.
My beginner’s take is that this one lens should cover both zoom shots and close-ups,
though I’m definitely still learning!
Once I get comfortable with it, I’d love to try some different lenses.
The regular price for this setup was $1,238,
but a 10% promotional discount brought my total to just under ₩1.5 million—roughly $1,115.
At the time, this offer was better than Canon’s first-purchase discount.

There was also a free-battery promotion for purchases made by Sunday, November 1.
That offer was running during my visit, too!
It was one of the reasons I hurried over to buy the camera.

The staff also handled Canon’s genuine-product registration promotion
right there in the store, which made everything so easy.
That promotion runs through December 31.
The gifts include a battery and a camera strap,
but those aren’t handed over in the store: they’re shipped to your home four to six weeks later.
That’s the delivery timeline they gave me.
A little disappointing, since I could have used them right away!
I did bring a battery home, though.

If you post a receipt-verified review on Naver, the Korean search and review platform,
you also get a storage case for batteries and SD cards!
Naturally, I did that right away.

They told me SanDisk cards work well with the camera.
People say photography is an expensive hobby, and I’m starting to see why.

All this is mine now!
I immediately messaged my mom: “Please round up all the SanDisk cards we have at home!” No time wasted there.

Camera bags were already catching my eye,
and so were the straps…

After the purchase, the staff registered the camera
and checked it over for any scratches.
I left feeling very pleased with my haul.
Repairs & After-Sales Service
Camera Cleaning
Up to Two Years of Warranty Coverage
Because my camera was registered within 30 days of purchase,
they said it qualified for up to two years of warranty coverage.
They also told me cleaning is generally available at the company-operated store,
so I’ll have to stop by periodically.

I brought my first camera home cradled carefully in my arms.
My precious new travel companion!
Its first outing will be my trip to Busan, South Korea, and I can’t wait.

I’ll keep learning and come back with another review once I’ve used it more!
