Rome Transport Strike Guide: October 30, 2026, Italy—Guaranteed Metro & Bus Hours, Airport Transfers & Backup Plans

Rome transport strike: upcoming strike action in Italy
Friday, October 30
A strike is planned for Rome’s buses, metro, and trams.

Hi there!
I’m a world travel blogger, Traveling Gomyammi—welcome to my blog.

If you’re planning a trip to Italy in late October, this is for you:
there’s an important local update to check before you go.

Demonstrations and marches have been announced in several Italian cities,
with possible road closures and public transportation detours.

On top of that,

Rome is expecting disruption on Friday, October 30,
with a planned 24-hour public transportation strike.

If you have reservations for the Colosseum or the Vatican,
or need to get to the airport, check your transportation options ahead of time!

I’ve also covered three ways to reach the airport
and taxi fares in Rome
in the related posts
at the bottom of this article.

Rome Transport Strike: Which Services Could Be Affected?

Public transportation disruption in Rome, Italy

According to the City of Rome’s official notice, the ATAC network
and some privately operated bus services are included in the strike.
That means services commonly used by travelers, including metro lines A, B, B1, and C,
along with ATAC buses and trams, could be affected.
But a “24-hour strike” doesn’t mean every service will stop running all day.
There are designated time slots when service is guaranteed.

Some services may still run outside those guaranteed hours,
but I wouldn’t plan your day around normal service being available.

One more thing: metro services after midnight and night buses
follow separate rules. If you’re traveling late at night,
check the detailed official notice.

Have Colosseum or Vatican Reservations?

Don’t just double-check your attraction entry time—
take another look at when you need to leave your accommodation, too.
Here’s how I’d prepare:

Leave plenty of extra travel time for timed-entry tickets.
Group nearby sights into a walkable itinerary.
For example: walk between the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona.
(Take a taxi to your starting point.)
Decide how you’ll get back to your accommodation after dinner.
Check live service updates again just before leaving.

Rather than leaving based only on
the usual travel time shown in your map app,
have an alternative route ready, too.

Another option is to book a day tour outside Rome
or a Vatican tour.
(Tours that provide their own buses can avoid relying on city transit—check what’s included.)

Planning a Transfer Between Fiumicino Airport and Roma Termini?

If you’re traveling to or from the airport, check more than just city transit updates:
look up service notices for your specific airport transportation providerbefore you travel.

If you plan to take the Leonardo Express,
check Trenitalia’s notices for your travel date.
For an airport bus, check updates from the operator you booked with
as part of your preparations.

Rather than assuming, “It’s an airport train, so it must be running normally,”
take a moment to verify.
Check whether your intended departure is operating
before finalizing your transfer plan.

To help you prepare a backup,
I’ve included guides to buses between the airport and Roma Termini,
taking the Leonardo Express train,and
using a taxi, below.
