Year-end travel starts with cheap Japan flights.
How to save on flights to Japan
From Japan’s biggest cities to its smaller towns,
here’s how to book for less.
Hey, everyone!
It’s Traveling Gomyammi, your globe-trotting travel blogger.

Somehow, October is already almost over.
I’ve been trying to decide where to go before the year ends,
and I’ve settled on Fukuoka, Japan, in November! A food-focused getaway was just too tempting to pass up.
Fukuoka, you never disappoint!
Around this time, plenty of you are probably starting to plan a November trip to Japan
or a December getaway abroad to wrap up the year.
December also means Christmas trips,
and flights can sell out faster around the year-end and New Year holidays.
If you’re traveling as a family, I’d especially recommend booking well ahead.

2. Where to Go in Japan in November and December |
|||
Planning a year-end trip to Japan? Compare flight prices across different destinationsbefore deciding where to go.
These are the destinations I usually compare when looking for cheap Japan flights!
-
Flights to Fukuoka, Japan

November Flight Prices to Fukuoka

Fukuoka is an easy hop from South Korea, with an airport close to downtown and convenient access to nearby destinations such as Kumamoto and Hita.
It’s also a great base for a winter stay at a ryokan—a traditional Japanese inn—in Yufuin or Beppu. And if you love food, you could happily spend the whole trip eating your way around Fukuoka!
If you’re renting a car, consider adding increasingly popular stops such as Kumamoto Castle, Mount Aso, and Kurokawa Onsen to your itinerary. Pick the right Tuesday departure, and you may even find an Incheon–Fukuoka flight for $60.
2. Flights to Osaka, Japan

Osaka Flight Prices
Osaka is another great choice for a festive year-end trip to Japan. Explore the city, then head toward the increasingly popular smaller towns of northern Kyoto Prefecture.
It’s a wonderful way to combine big-city energy with a quieter side of Japan. In particular, northern Kyoto has lovely small towns where coastal scenery meets traditional fishing villages. There’s plenty to explore.
Some of the places getting attention lately include the Ine no Funaya boathouses, Amanohashidate, Maizuru, and Kyotango. They’re all popular picks. With a little searching, Osaka flights can also come in around $60!
3. Flights to Tokyo, Japan

Christmas in Tokyo is beautiful, too! From late November through December 25, Christmas markets, towering trees, and winter illuminations pop up across the city.
That makes Tokyo a lovely choice for a year-end trip to Japan. In 2026, the Tokyo Christmas Market is reportedly being held at two locations: Shiba Park and Shin-Toyosu.
Shiba Park is especially appealing because you get Tokyo Tower in the background—a Christmas view you could only find in Tokyo.
The announced dates are December 4–25, 2026! If you want to enjoy Tokyo’s nighttime skyline and Christmas festivities together, check the Tokyo Christmas festival map
before heading out. Aren’t those year-end Tokyo flight prices better than you expected?

3. Which Airports Should You Use for Japan’s Smaller Cities? |
|||

What I like about this Trip.com flight discount code is that it isn’t just for popular routes to Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
You can also use it when booking flights to smaller Japanese cities, where eligible.
If you haven’t decided where to go yet, compare flights to smaller cities, too.
Not planning to visit a major city at all? Consider flying straight into one of these regional airports instead.
Here are arrival airports close to those smaller destinations to help you plan.

Use the link above to search for your preferred destination in Japan, such as Matsuyama, Takamatsu, or Yonago.
One more tip if you’re visiting Japan’s smaller cities:
search nearby alternative airports, too.
For Yufuin or Beppu, compare Oita Airport and Fukuoka Airport.
For Kumamoto, compare Kumamoto Airport and Fukuoka Airport.
For Kitakyushu, compare Kitakyushu Airport and Fukuoka Airport.
Even if one flight is slightly cheaper, getting from that airport to your destination
could cost more. Compare the total trip cost before booking!
