Bangkok Riverfront Hotel Review: Royal Orchid Sheraton
Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel Bangkok
A Complete Guide to the Hotel Directly Across from ICONSIAM
Hi! If you’re looking for a Bangkok riverfront hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, here’s my take on our recent stay.
This time, we stayed at
Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel Bangkok,
and I wanted to share a proper review.

Choosing where to stay in Bangkok often comes down to one big question:
Do you stay somewhere like Sukhumvit for easy access to the BTS Skytrain,
or go for those Chao Phraya River viewsinstead?
If you don’t want to give up the river views
but also want to be right across from ICONSIAM,
with easy access to the mall,
this hotel ticks both boxes.
We stayed for about four days and three nights, and I was really happy with our choice.

With just the Chao Phraya River
between the hotel and ICONSIAM,
the hotel’s free shuttle boat makes getting back and forth
wonderfully easy.
“But it isn’t right next to a BTS station, is it?”
Fair question.
The hotel runs a free shuttle service toward ICONSIAM and Saphan Taksin BTS Station,
so you still have a convenient connection.
That was a huge plus for us!
And here’s another great perk:
every single room has a Chao Phraya River view.
Airport Taxi Fares

We took an airport taxi to the hotel,
and the fare seemed to be whatever the driver decided to charge.
Going back to the airport, we booked a taxi through Bolt and paid 320 baht.
Coming from the airport? We paid 800 baht in cash.
Don’t get caught overpaying like we did.
*Bolt was cheaper than Grab in our experience.*

As a Bangkok riverfront hotel, Royal Orchid Sheraton
may be older, but its rooms are spacious, and for a five-star property,
the rates are relatively reasonable.

Expect roughly ₩250,000–₩300,000 per night, or about $180–$215.
That includes breakfast.
When I compared rates, MyRealTrip was a little cheaper.
Below, I’ve included coupons with discounts available only through these links.

Our room for this stay
was number 715.
Even on the seventh floor, the view was pretty great.

There are separate elevators for the lower and higher floors,
so we never had to wait long.
Housekeeping generally came around 2–3 p.m., unless we had the Do Not Disturb sign up,
and took care of the room without us having to ask.

Here it is: our seventh-floor river view!
The view is at a slight angle, which somehow made it feel even more charming.

Here’s what the room layout looked like.
Since this is an older hotel, it doesn’t have that brand-new five-star feel,
but I actually liked its classic style.

This was with the lights off,
just to give you a sense of the view.
During the day, the Chao Phraya River does look a little murky.
ICONSIAM was directly in front of our room, though,
and the view was gorgeous once everything lit up at night.

There was a TV, though we never turned it on,
and an iron, too.

The room also had a fridge, which was showing its age.
We received four bottles of water a day.
There was both an electric kettle and a coffee machine,
but we didn’t use either.

The bathroom was separate from the bedroom and quite spacious.
It had a separate bathtub, too.
One thing I’d definitely recommend: bring a shower filter!
It’s one of my Bangkok travel essentials.
All the little toiletries were provided, along with a hair dryer,
and they were very generous with the towels.

Breakfast Buffet at Royal Orchid Sheraton
Breakfast hours at Feastrun from
6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. each morning.
There’s plenty of variety,
and I liked that some dishes changed from day to day during our stay.

You’ll find fruit, curries, grilled dishes,
yogurt, pastries, desserts, and salads.
It’s a fairly substantial spread,
and booking a breakfast-inclusive rate in advance works out to be good value.
One morning, we paid for one additional person at the restaurant. Including tax, it came to
695 baht, give or take.
On a previous visit about three years earlier, it had been 650 baht,
so the price had gone up since then.

The gyoza, watermelon, guava,
and omelets were all tasty.
#RoyalOrchidSheratonShuttleBoatSchedule

The shuttle boat runs every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
It leaves the hotel on the hour and at half past.
At ICONSIAM, it stops at five and 35 minutes past the hour.
At the central pier near Saphan Taksin Station, it stops at ten and 40 minutes past.
That’s the basic schedule to keep in mind.
**Note: ICONSIAM doesn’t open until 10 a.m.**
Schedules can change, so double-check before heading out.
How to Get to Asiatique for Free via the Hotel Boat’s Intermediate Pier Stop

Head to the river side of the hotel, and you’ll find the pier here.
There are two types of boats:
one is a red, raft-style boat,

and the other is this slightly fancier-looking one.
Both serve the hotel, so you can board either.
They tend to board passengers quickly and pull away promptly,
so get there early.

The nighttime views from the river are beautiful, too.
#ICONSIAMSookSiam

If heading to a night market feels like too much effort,
ICONSIAM has its own indoor market,
SookSiam, where you can pick up a few snacks instead.
#NearbyConvenienceStore

Leave through the hotel’s street-side main entrance and walk one block to the left.
There’s a 7-Eleven about three minutes away.
If you don’t feel like crossing the river to ICONSIAM,
a convenience-store snack run does the trick.

By the way, the yogurt drink with the blue cap
has that familiar flavor we know from Korea, and it’s delicious.
The red strawberry yogurt drink is less sweet
and more tangy and refreshing.
#RoyalOrchidSheratonPools

Apparently, the hotel has two swimming pools,
but I only visited one.
It seemed like only one was open during our stay.
There’s a terrace pool overlooking the Chao Phraya River
and another outdoor pool surrounded by gardens,
which makes the hotel a nice option for families, too.

Since the pool stays open until 10 p.m.,
you can swim while enjoying ICONSIAM’s beautiful nighttime lights.
One end of the rectangular pool
is apparently three meters deep.

Pool hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
#RoyalOrchidSheratonGym

The gym is right by the pool.
It has a lovely view and good-quality workout machines.
#MassageNearRoyalOrchidSheraton
There are two or three massage shops very close to the hotel.
They’re all reasonably priced and looked decent,
but we tried two of them.
One was #WanMassage,
and the other was #MyDearMassage.
They’re right next to each other and charge similar prices.
Here’s a quick comparison to help you choose.
Wan Massage

You recline in a chair for your massage.
Credit cards accepted.
The staff were friendly, the massage really eased the tension, and they were especially good at loosening up my neck.
My Dear Massage
You change clothes and lie down for the massage.
Cash or QR payment only.
The pressure felt a little firmer here.

If your ideal Bangkok riverfront hotel stay includes beautiful nighttime views of the Chao Phraya River,
Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel Bangkok
is one I’d happily recommend.
