Bangkok Riverfront Hotel Review: Royal Orchid Sheraton
Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel Bangkok
Your complete guide to the hotel directly across from ICONSIAM
Hello from this Bangkok riverfront hotel in Bangkok, Thailand!
On my latest trip, I stayed at
Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel Bangkok,
and I wanted to share my experience.

Choosing where to stay in Bangkok usually comes down to one big question:
Do you stay somewhere like Sukhumvit for easy access to the BTS Skytrain,
or go for those Chao Phraya River viewsinstead?
If you don’t want to give up the river views
but also want easy access to ICONSIAM
right across the water,
this hotel is a great fit.
We spent about four days and three nights at this Bangkok riverfront hotel, and I was really happy with our stay.
Browse rooms at Royal Orchid Sheraton Bangkok Take a look!
The Chao Phraya River separates the hotel
from ICONSIAM directly opposite,
and the hotel’s free shuttle boat makes traveling between them
wonderfully easy.
“But it’s not right next to a BTS station, is it?”
Fair question.
The hotel provides a free shuttle service toward ICONSIAM and Saphan Taksin BTS Station,
so you still have a convenient connection to public transportation.
That was a huge plus for me!
And here’s another selling point:
Every single room has a Chao Phraya River view.
Airport Taxi Fares

We took an airport taxi to the hotel,
and the fare felt like whatever the driver decided to quote.
For the return trip from the hotel to the airport, we booked through Bolt and paid 320 baht.
Coming from the airport, though? We paid 800 baht in cash.
Don’t make the same expensive mistake we did.
My tip: Bolt was cheaper than Grab.

Royal Orchid Sheraton
is an older hotel, but the rooms are spacious, and for a five-star property,
the rates are relatively affordable.

Expect roughly ₩250,000–₩300,000 per night, or about $180–$215.
That includes breakfast.
When I checked, MyRealTrip had some cheaper options.
Below, you’ll find discount coupons available only through these links.

For this stay, we were assigned
room 715.
Even on the seventh floor, the view was lovely.

Separate elevators serve the lower and upper floors,
so we never had to wait long.
Housekeeping usually came around 2–3 p.m., unless we had the Do Not Disturb sign up.
Otherwise, they took care of the room without us having to ask.

Here’s our seventh-floor river view!
It was an angled view, which had its own charm.

This was the room layout.
Given the hotel’s history, it doesn’t have the feel of a brand-new five-star property,
but I liked its classic style.

This is with the lights off,
letting the view do the talking.
During the day, the Chao Phraya River looks a little muddy.
But ICONSIAM was directly in front of our room,
and the nighttime view was gorgeous.

There was a TV, though we never turned it on,
plus an iron.

The room also had a refrigerator, which looked a little dated,
and four bottles of drinking water were provided each day.
There was both an electric kettle and a coffee machine,
but we didn’t use either.

The bathroom was separate from the main room and quite spacious.
It had a separate bathtub, too.
One thing I’d definitely recommend: Pack a shower filter!
It’s on my Bangkok travel essentials list.
Small toiletries and a hair dryer were provided,
along with plenty of towels.

Royal Orchid Sheraton Breakfast Buffet
Breakfast at Feastis served from
6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. each morning.
There was a good variety of dishes,
and I liked that the selection changed a little from day to day during our stay.

You’ll find fruit, curries, grilled dishes,
yogurt, pastries, desserts, and salads.
There’s a fairly generous selection,
and booking a breakfast-inclusive room rate in advance works out cheaper.
One morning, we paid for one additional person at the restaurant. Including tax, it came to
695 baht, approximately.
When I visited about three years earlier, it was 650 baht,
so the price had gone up.

The gyoza, watermelon, guava,
and omelets were all tasty.
#RoyalOrchidSheratonShuttleBoatSchedule

The shuttle boat runs every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
It leaves the hotel on the hour and half hour,
stops at ICONSIAM at five and 35 minutes past the hour,
and reaches the central pier near Saphan Taksin BTS Station at 10 and 40 minutes past.
That’s the basic timing to keep in mind.
Note: ICONSIAM doesn’t open until 10 a.m.
Schedules can change, so double-check during your stay.
How to Reach Asiatique for Free via the Hotel Shuttle’s Connecting Pier

Head to the river side of the hotel, where you’ll find the pier.
There are two types of shuttle boats:
one is a red, raft-style boat,

and the other looks a little more upscale.
Both are hotel shuttles, so you can board either one.
Boarding tends to happen quickly, and the boats leave promptly,
so get there early.

Bangkok’s nighttime skyline looks beautiful from the water, too.
#ICONSIAMSookSiam

If an evening trip to a night market feels too far,
try the indoor market inside ICONSIAM instead.
You can pick up a few snacks at SookSiam and bring them back.
#NearbyConvenienceStore

Exit through the hotel’s street-side main entrance and walk one block to the left.
There’s a 7-Eleven about three minutes away,
so if you don’t feel like crossing the river to ICONSIAM,
a convenience-store snack run is an easy alternative.

By the way, the yogurt drink with the blue cap
has that familiar flavor we know from home—I really liked it.
The red strawberry yogurt drink is less sugary
and more tangy.
#RoyalOrchidSheratonPools

The hotel has two swimming pools,
but I only tried one.
It seemed like just one was open during our visit.
There’s a terrace pool overlooking the Chao Phraya River,
plus another outdoor pool surrounded by gardens,
making this a nice option for families.

The pool stays open until 10 p.m.,
so you can swim with ICONSIAM’s beautiful evening lights across the river.
One end of the rectangular pool
is reportedly 3 meters deep.

Pool hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
#RoyalOrchidSheratonGym

The gym is right in front of the pool.
It has a lovely view and good-quality workout machines.
#MassageNearRoyalOrchidSheraton
There are also two or three massage shops right near the hotel.
They’re affordable and decent options,
and we tried two of them.
One was #WanMassage,
and the other was #MyDearMassage.
They’re right next to each other, with similar prices.
Here’s a quick comparison to help you choose.
Wan Massage

You recline in a chair for your massage.
Card payments accepted.
The staff were friendly, the massage was wonderfully relieving, and they were especially good at loosening up my neck.
My Dear Massage
You change clothes and lie down for your massage.
Cash or QR payment only.
The pressure felt a little stronger here.

If you’re looking for a Bangkok riverfront hotel with beautiful Chao Phraya River views after dark,
Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel Bangkok
is one I’d happily recommend.
